You will be eligible to accrue and use paid sick leave in accordance with applicable California and local laws. Generally, this means that you will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours you work up to a cap of 80 hours and you may use up to 48 accrued hours in any 12-month period. You become eligible to use paid sick leave on your 90th day of work with Scoot Education provided you have been employed by the Company in California for at least 30 or more days within a year of your employment with the Company.

Leave under this policy may be used in connection with the diagnosis, care, or treatment of an existing health condition of, or preventive care for, the employee or the employee’s family member.  “Family member” for purposes of this policy includes a spouse, registered domestic partner, child (regardless of the child’s age), parent (including a step-parent or parent-in-law), grandparent, grandchild, sibling, or a designated person. “Designated person” for the purposes of this policy is a person identified by the employee at the time the employee requests paid sick days.  Employees may be limited to identifying one (1) designated person per twelve (12)-month period.   Leave under this policy may also be used by an employee who is a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking to seek aid or medical attention, obtain services or counseling, or participate in safety planning.  Sick leave may also be used for bereavement leave within three (3) months of the death of an employee’s family member, or for any other reason permitted by applicable law.In order to use paid sick leave, you must be scheduled to work an assignment and provide notice, as early as practicable, to Scoot that you are unable to perform or complete the scheduled assignment and seek to use your accrued sick leave. Sick leave cannot be taken in increments of less than two (2) hours.Sick leave is calculated by a 90-day “look back” calculation that requires dividing the employee’s total wages, not including overtime premium pay, by the employee’s total hours worked in the full pay periods of the prior 90 days of employment.

Scoot will not take any adverse action against you for utilizing paid sick leave.  However, employees who misuse or abuse this policy, e.g., misrepresent the reason for use of paid sick leave or use paid sick leave for vacation, may be subject to disciplinary action.

Unused time under this policy will not be paid out at the time of separation from employment.  However, employees who are re-employed with Scoot within a year of separation will have any unused paid sick leave accrued under this policy reinstated.

Leave under this policy may run concurrently with leave taken under local, state, or federal law, including leave taken pursuant to the California Family Rights Act or the Family and Medical Leave Act.  For more information regarding this policy, contact the Human Resources team.
